A picnic with Kirthanaa Naidu

Our exploration of all things al fresco continues with Kirthanaa, one of our very favourite supperclub hosts and stylists, and a rising star of Instagram, delighting all with her tablescaping.

As the Official Wine of Picnics, we have to make it clear that it's not just about the spread. It's also location, location, location. Kirthanaa invites us to one of her favourite spots, a hidden gem that we help make a little more uncommon.

What your first point of call when you’re creating the perfect open-air experience?
Location is so important; most parks have beautiful hidden spots - take your time to find them, you’ll want to spend hours there! This is tucked away in Holland Park. But Hyde Park (near Lancaster Gate) has some hidden spots with overgrown grass. I also love the Hampstead Heath ponds, and the boating lake overlooking the pagoda in Battersea Park.

Do you have any thoughts on how to recreate the best of indoors, outdoors?
The advantage of being in doors is that you can make best use of candles! They always help elevate tables and create a wonderful atmosphere. You can create this outdoors by investing in some glass hurricanes which will also save your linens from wax drippings.

Aside from the wine, you need nourishment. What's your desert island dish?
That would be simple and fresh barbecued seafood. I might have to learn how to fish first though! If you want something a little different, I recommend Anchovies & Crisps - don’t ask, just try!

We'll take your word for it! Where did you pick up your favourite pieces in your picnicscape?
The linen cloth is from Summerill & Bishop, which I just snapped up from Selfridges! The "Tonight Is The Night" napkins are Arktitaip (available on Glassette) and the cutlery is Merci Paris, they have an online shop too, which is fab

When you’re keeping holidays local, where’s your favourite spot and which of our locals couldn't you be without?
There are some beautiful spots in the West Country - Glebe House is heaven, perfect for picnic set ups too! And I’ll have to keep it classic with Gerald!

Finally, we’re asking all our picnic creators to complete the following phrase. This summer is all about unbelievably good… TIMES! We all deserve it!
